MELEKEOK, Palau – Locally raised and slaughtered pork is now available at the WCTC West Melekeok store.

About 120 pounds of pork were delivered to the store last week. The pork was simply labeled “local pork” and individually packaged with a stamp of approval from the Palau Department of Agriculture.
The piglets are originally sold by Taiwan Technology Mission (TTM). “I certify the pork before it goes into the store,” said Dr. Kevin Lee, a veterinarian at TTM. All the pork sold in the store comes from the same pig farm.
Lee said pigs are usually ready for processing when they weigh about 200 pounds. The pork sold by Simelekeok is veterinary-certified and slaughtered in Palau’s national slaughterhouse in accordance with Bureau of Agriculture regulations.
Mr. Li visits pig farmers who buy piglets from TTM every month to inspect the pigs and offer advice. He encourages interested farmers to contact TTM for help with raising, processing and selling certified pork.
