Foreign Minister Elena Valtonen said Finland’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has not changed.
On Thursday, Foreign Minister Elena Valtonen (NCP) commented on the situation in the Middle East at the Kotkaniemi Security Forum in Lumaki.
Valtonen said that negotiating a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and releasing the hostages are urgent tasks, and the humanitarian situation in Gaza should be improved.
“Finland’s position on the Middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has not changed at all. Our position is to support the two-state model,” Valtonen said.
Valtonen said Finland would recognize the State of Palestine once more permanent peace talks based on the two-state model were launched.
When asked about the opening of the border between Finland and Russia, Valtonen said that the border opening issue is likely to be reviewed again in the autumn.
“For now, the border remains closed,” Valtonen told Yle.
