BJP MP Fateh Bahadur Singh has claimed that he is facing security threats from another party member and cited the recent assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump. Singh sought intervention from Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh MP Yogi Adityanath in separate letters, alleging that BJP party member Rajiv Ranjan Chaudhary had hired someone to assassinate him.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, he said that despite the Chief Minister providing him security for the past seven to eight years, prominent people continue to be attacked, citing the recent attack on former US President Donald Trump.
Singh, a seven-time MP from Kampirganj, currently has 11 Y+ grade security personnel and his security arrangements are reviewed regularly. Singh claimed that Chaudhary had offered him a contract worth Rs 5 crore to die.
However, Choudhury denied the allegations and insisted his life was in danger. “It was not me who wanted to kill the MP, it was the MP who wanted to kill me,” he said late on Thursday.
Chaudhary is the son of BJP district committee member Saroj Devi. The police launched an investigation following Singh’s complaint.
The MP, son of former chief minister Veer Bahadur Singh, accused the police of inaction at a press conference on Thursday. He claimed that 11 days ago, when he was touring the constituency, he was told that there was an assassination plot against him.
The Kampirganj MP said that though he initially rejected the threat, one of the hired killers approached him the next day and revealed that someone had offered Rs 5 crore for his life.
Singh claimed that he had reported the matter to the SSP and explained the entire incident at his residence and informed the Chief Minister. Despite this, he said, the SSP has not taken any action in the past 11 days.
On Thursday evening, Gorakhpur district mayor Krishna Karunesh and senior superintendent of police Gaurav Grover issued a joint statement on the matter.
DM Karunesh assured that the police had started investigation after receiving Singh’s complaint. He said several persons have been questioned and all the information is being thoroughly verified.
Senior Superintendent of Police Grover added that the investigation has been handed over to Senior Superintendent of Police North Zone and involves different police teams, including the Special Task Force (STF).
