LOS ANGELES (EFE) – An American truck driver was hailed as a hero after he found and revived a one-year-old child who had been abandoned on a Louisiana highway for about two days.
Reginald Walton told KADN-TV that he was driving on Interstate 10 last Tuesday when he saw a doll he thought someone had thrown into a ditch, but when he passed by, he saw it was moving.
The man stopped his truck and walked nearly a kilometer back to the ditch, where he was surprised to find that the object moving was a baby.
Walton immediately called authorities, who had been searching for the boy since the day before, when the body of his four-year-old brother was found dead in a nearby lake.
Investigators said the children were last seen on Saturday, July 6, and their mother, Aaliyah Jack, 25, was later taken into custody in Mississippi.
It is believed the little boy had been outdoors for about two days and police believe it is a miracle that he survived that long without food and care.
Walton told the TV station that he doesn’t feel like a hero. “I just feel like it was God’s will for me to be in the right place at the right time,” he said.
Jack faces charges of second-degree murder and child abuse.
