On Thursday, a Russian court sentenced American-Russian dual national Ksenia Karelinna to 12 years in prison for “treason” for sending $51.80 to a pro-Ukraine charity. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby criticized the sentence as “an act of sheer vindictive cruelty” and told reporters the charges were “absolutely ridiculous.”
