WASHINGTON: The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Wednesday it is seeking more details about a series of incidents that raised concerns about the performance of self-driving cars from Alphabet Inc’s Waymo.
In May, U.S. auto safety regulators launched an investigation into 22 reports that its self-driving taxis exhibited driving behaviors that could violate traffic safety laws or displayed other “unexpected behavior,” including 17 collisions.
The agency said Wednesday that Waymo will answer a series of detailed questions by August 6, including all details about the company’s self-driving cars operating on public roads.
