Unemployment soars to new highs

The latest employment data shows that Botswana’s unemployment rate continues to rise, with young people being the most affected by unemployment.

The Botswana Bureau of Statistics’ Quarterly Multi-Topic Survey (QMTS) for the first quarter of 2024 showed that Botswana’s labour force (consisting of people aged 15 years and above who are eligible to work) fell by 2.1% to 1 million from 962,319 in the last quarter of 2022.
