Russian officials say Ukrainian troops have entered Russian territory and are fighting Russian forces.
The Russian military said on Thursday that Ukrainian troops had come within 10 kilometers of the Russian border and had been fighting with Ukrainian troops for three days.
The Russian military said Ukrainian troops entered Russia’s Kask region on Tuesday. According to the Russian military, the Ukrainian troops have about 1,000 soldiers in tanks and armored vehicles.
This is the strongest Ukrainian attack across Russian territory since Russian troops invaded Ukraine in February.
The Russian Defense Ministry said Russian forces are continuing to launch rocket attacks from the air and roads to defeat and repel Ukrainian forces.
The US-based Institute for the Study of War said Ukraine had made significant progress in its offensive into Russian territory, with Ukrainian forces already controlling a large area.
