Regional Governor Igor Artamonov issued the warning and declared a state of emergency around 2 a.m. Friday.
“Warning! Lipetsk is under massive attack from drones. Air defenses are working. Stay away from windows. Take shelter in a safe place,” he then wrote on his phone. Telegram Channel.
The evacuation of about 400 households in four villages in the region began immediately. According to the Russian Interfax news agency, the attack caused a power outage at a military air base in the region and a major fire. Currently, six injured are being treated in hospital.
On social media, especially X, a series of pictures and videos of the area were immediately released, with Igor Artamonov commenting on his Telegram channel:
“I urge you to refrain from posting photos and videos of the aftermath of drone strikes. This helps the enemy with correct direction and accuracy. By posting and forwarding photos and videos, you are putting yourself and your family in danger,” he wrote.
According to the Russians Russian air defenses shot down 75 Ukrainian drones overnight, most of which flew over the Belobrod and Lipetsk regions, RIA Novosti reported, citing the Russian Defense Ministry. Ukrainian authorities have not reported any attacks on the Lipetsk region.
Power was supposed to have been restored in the area shortly before 6 a.m. Friday, and Atamonov announced that the attack had been repelled and the red threat level had been lowered to yellow.
