Former President Donald Trump harshly criticized his opponent, Kamala Harris, over her racial identity in Chicago on Wednesday.

During a panel discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists conference, Trump attacked his Democratic rival, saying Harris “became black years ago.” CBS report.

this ABS News Rachel Scott, a Black journalist, questioned Trump on the definition of “DEI.”

“I’ve known (Harris) for a long time, not directly, but indirectly. She has always been Indian, she just promotes her Indian traditions. I didn’t know she was black until she happened to become black a few years ago, and now, she wants to be called black. So, I don’t know if she is Indian or black?” the Republican candidate responded

“But you know what, I respect any of them, but I obviously don’t respect them,” Trump said of Harris. “Because she’s always been Indian, and then all of a sudden, she’s transformed, she’s become a black person — and I think, I think somebody should look into that, and continue to speak in a very hostile, nasty tone when you ask about it.”

However, the former president criticized the conversation a few hours later on the social media platform. “The questions were rude, bad, and often came in the form of statements, but we succeeded!” he said.

Furthermore, the comments come as Harris’ mother is from India and her father is from Jamaica. The Democrat completed her undergraduate degree at Howard University, a historically black school in Washington, D.C. While attending law school at the University of California, San Francisco, Harris served as president of the Black Law Students Association.

Harris spoke at an event for the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority in Houston on Wednesday night, warning the leadership to be careful of her opponent Trump in the upcoming election and saying the United States deserves a leader who speaks the truth.

“This afternoon, Donald Trump spoke at the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual convention and it was the same old story. Divisive and disrespectful – and let me just say, the American people deserve better,” she said.

She reiterated: “Americans deserve a leader who speaks the truth, a leader who does not respond to facts with hostility and anger; a leader who understands that our differences do not divide us; that our differences are a great source of our strength.”
