In June 2024, sales volumes continued to fall across all trade sectors (-0.8% in May and -0.7% thereafter).
In June 2024*, wholesale trade sales, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, fell again within a month (-0.6% vs. -0.7% in May). In particular, sales of “other machinery, equipment and supplies” fell (-2.8% vs. +2.6% in May), as well as wholesale sales on a fee or contract basis (-1.4% vs. +0.4% in May). In contrast, sales in the agricultural raw materials and live animals sector recovered sharply, although this was not enough to offset the decline of the previous month (+5.1% vs. -9.8% in May).
In June 2024, sales in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles also continued to decline (-1.6% compared to -2.0%): sales of motor vehicle parts and accessories fell (-3.7% compared to -1.9%), and sales of motor vehicles fell (-1.3% compared to -1.9%).
Finally, in June 2024, retail trade sales, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, fell again, although more sharply than in May (-0.6% in June and -0.3% in May). Sales in non-specialized stores shrank (-1.3% after +0.2% in the previous month), sales in specialized stores fell again (-0.4%, the same as in May), while retail trade in non-specialized stores recovered (+0.9% after -0.8% in the previous month). In specialized stores, the “other goods” sector (sales of medicines, clothing, footwear, etc.) was the main reason for the decline in sales (-0.9% after -0.1% in the previous month), while only “other household equipment” (sales of furniture, appliances, hardware, etc.) grew (+1.5% after -3.4% in the previous month).

According to preliminary estimates, retail trade sales excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles are expected to increase slightly in July 2024 (+0.2% month-on-month). In May-July 2024, they will increase by 0.6% compared with the same period last year.
Cumulative sales in the second quarter of 2024 were 0.8% higher than in the second quarter of 2023. Growth was recorded in wholesale trade excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.2%) and retail trade excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.6%). In contrast, trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles declined (-2.3%). Within the retail trade sector, growth was recorded in specialized stores (+1.5%), non-specialized stores (+1.6%) and non-in-store retail trade (+2.0%).
