Chitwan, July 20. A tiger was captured with a dart 17 hours after it attacked and injured a person near Narayangadh market in Chitwan on Saturday morning.
Pashupati Shrestha, a 60-year-old man from Bharatpur-2 Beltadi, was attacked and injured by a tiger while taking a walk in the upper part of the Chitwan Festival fairgrounds in the morning.
Shrestha is being treated at Chitwan Medical College for injuries to his hands and neck.Technicians from the National Conservation Trust Chitwan National Park tried to control the tiger with the help of elephants but were unsuccessful.
The tiger, which was hiding in the dense reeds nearby, had chased the elephant on several occasions. The elephant, which had clashed with the tiger, left its mahout and fled the market area.
One of the elephants reached Shishuwar in West Chitwan while the other escaped and reached Nildanda in Bharatpur 19. Later, Chitwan National Park Information Officer Ganesh Prasad Tiwari informed that they brought 2 elephants from the National Conservation Trust and succeeded in shooting the tiger from three directions.
Park information officer Tiwari said: “It was difficult to take the elephant away due to the dense jungle and difficulty in identification, and it took time to coordinate the interests of all parties.” In the morning, the tiger was not allowed to escape to other places. If he escaped, he might have attacked many other places.
Information officer Tiwari said that in the past, it took up to a month to control the tiger. The age and gender of the captured tiger have not been revealed. Information officer Tiwari said the tiger will be taken to a cage in Sauraha Park.
Of the two cages at Sauraha, one is empty and the other contains a tiger, which was brought from Tori using a dart. The park can house two tigers at Sauraha, three at Kasara, two at Bharatpur and 13 at Devanagar.
There are now 3 tigers in Kasara and 2 in Devanagar. Information officer Tiwari told Onlinekhabar that if more tigers are to be captured, there will be no place to keep them.
