On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) conducted a large-scale operation involving personnel from multiple units, including the Special Operations Group, the Major Crimes Unit (MCU), the Traffic Enforcement Team (TET), the Special Services Unit North (SSU), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Vulnerable Persons Team (VPT) and the Bicycle Unit of Castries (BPU). The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects on charges of murder, intentional use of a firearm and assault with a firearm.
The individuals arrested and charged are as follows:
MacGyver Gavin Jn. Lewis (33) from Fonle Grand, Castries, has been formally charged with murder by the Major Crimes Unit Darrell Craig Detwiler (32), also known as “Darwo”, from Castries Pawe. The body of Darrel Deterville was found in a car parked beside Nelson Mandela Boulevard, Vigie Castries on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. MacGyver Jn Louis remains in custody after making a bail application to the court.
Chrisman Lance John Chrisman John (30) from Bois Patat, Castries, was arrested and formally charged by Castries CID with intentional discharge of a firearm. The charge stems from a shooting incident that occurred in Bois Patat, Castries on Friday, May 31, 2024. Chrisman John is currently awaiting a bail hearing.
Sidgley Charles (22 years old) from Bexen, Castries, was formally arrested and charged by the Criminal Investigation Department of Castries for the crime of assault with an illegal firearm. The charge stems from an investigation into an assault that occurred in Bexen, Castries on Sunday, May 12, 2024. Cijay Charles was granted bail in the amount of Twenty Thousand Dollars (XCD20,000.00) in the form of cash, proper security or land documents by the First District Court.
