Today, Western countries have a great responsibility to prevent a split between East and West, EU Foreign Policy and Security High Representative Josep Borrell said on Saturday, adding that an alliance between Russia and China could divide the world.
Borrell said at the “Dubrovnik Forum 2024” international conference that there is a crisis of multilateralism today, “so many countries are turning to multipolarity because it is more useful to them.”
He added that multilateralism had been replaced by transactional relationships.
“There are more players and fewer rules. Also, there are more riots,” Borrell stressed.
At the same time, he explained the two main reasons for dissatisfaction with Western developed countries.
Borrell said the first reason was vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Western countries were the first to receive the vaccine, and the second was that less developed countries would suffer more from climate change caused by the more developed industrial world.
