Florian Mitchell, general manager of the Dominican Solid Waste Management Corporation, called for the introduction of a system that would allow householders to pay for their waste disposal.

Mitchell said some Caribbean islands have already adopted the system.

Mitchell added that discussions are underway with the Ministry of Environment about introducing a waste disposal fee.
