On June 6, CONCACAF will hold the draw for the 2024 Central American Cup group stage, which will adopt a simple format and five groups.
The 20 participating clubs are divided into 5 tiers based on the CONCACAF club rankings as of June 3, 2024. The 5 tiers are as follows:
Tier 1 (four best categories): Sporting Club Saprissa, Club Olimpia, Club Alajuelense, Club Herediano
Pot 2 (top four): CSD Municipal, Comunicaciones FC, Antigua GFC, FC Motagua
Pot 3 (four teams ranked second): Tauro FC, CD Marathón, CA Independiente, AD Guanacasteca
Pot 4 (four teams ranked second): San Francisco CF, Alameda CF, Real Esteli CF, CD Águila
Pot 5 (bottom four teams): Diriangén FC, CD LA Firpo, Managua FC, Port Layola FC
The draw will begin by selecting a ball from Pot 1 and placing that club in Position A1 in Group A. This process will be repeated for all divisions in Pot 1, placing the club in Position 1 in Groups B, C, and D, in that order.
Pots 2, 3, 4 and 5 will follow the same procedure, using group positions 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively. Once the draw has been made, each group will contain one club from each group, with no more than two clubs from the same Member Association.
Competition Format
The 2024 CONCACAF Cup will first be played in the group stage (four groups of five teams), with each team playing once against all teams in that group, for a total of four games per team (two home games and two away games).
After the group stage, the first and second place teams in each group will advance to the direct elimination stage. This stage will include home and away games, starting with the quarter-finals, followed by the semi-finals, play-in matches and the final.
The semi-finalists and the two play-off winners (six clubs in total) will qualify for the 2025 CONCACAF Champions League, with the winners also receiving direct entry into the last 16 of the 27-club competition.
