Addis Ababa, July 26, 2024 (Address) The 2024 Paris Olympics kicked off today with a spectacular opening ceremony in the French capital.
For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony will be held outside a stadium. The grand opening ceremony will be held on the Seine River.
More than 300,000 spectators are expected to line the riverbank to watch the awards ceremony.
Dozens of boats carrying athletes and performers are expected to parade along the river for 6 kilometers through central Paris.
The event will start from the Austerlitz Bridge, pass Notre Dame de Paris and arrive near the Eiffel Tower.


Famous artists such as Lady Gaga and Celine Dion are expected to perform at the grand opening event.
Security is at the heart of the Olympics, with the French government deploying more than 45,000 police and other security personnel for the Summer Games, even though the country is already on high security alert due to the war in Gaza and the war between Ukraine and Russia.
At the 33rd Olympic Games, approximately 10,500 athletes from 206 countries will compete in 32 sports.
Ethiopia is participating in its 15th Olympics, with 39 athletes competing in track and field, swimming and boxing.
The competition will last for 17 days and will end on August 11, 2024.
