This Tuesday afternoon, the National Congress awarded the Leonese singer-songwriter Pedro Pablo Martínez, artistically known as “Guadalupano”, the Order of José Dolores Estrada Grand Cross of the Battle of San Jacinto for his contribution to national culture.


The recognition of “Guadalupano” came during a special session commemorating the 65th anniversary of the July 23, 1959 student massacre.
Representative Loria Dickson read out the order issued by the National Assembly which highlighted the work of the revolutionary artist who used songs and musical works as a teacher to generations, promoting love for the motherland by example.
Many aspects of his life were highlighted by the fact that he developed an extraordinary musical career, touching people’s hearts with songs like “El canto de los Pájaros”, dedicated to the workers, “El Niquinomeño”, dedicated to General Sandino, etc. Recommended music.
In addition, the medal states that it recognizes his unique contribution to national culture, the homeland of Darío, Sandino and all Nicaraguans.
For his part, Pedro Pablo Martínez expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Sandinista National Liberation Movement, the Nicaraguan people and, in particular, his family in his beloved province of León, and to the National Assembly for the honour bestowed upon him.
“More than 50 years of devoting myself to music, without forgetting my people, the Sandinista National Liberation Front, the revolution and the continuous and long struggle of us Nicaraguans… Many songs have inspired my people to keep going and not give up,” added Guadalupano
Finally, the singer-songwriter of the town declared that we will continue to face the front, “We will continue to fight side by side with the revolution of the people of Daniel, Rosario, León… Thank you God, and may the Virgin Mary bless you.”
