The child’s name was Tusin Mia. He was five and a half years old. His frozen body was hung on the branches of a kadang tree. Both his ears were cut off and two knives were inserted into his stomach. The brutality did not end there. His genitals were also amputated.
The brutal murder took place in Kejara village in Dilai upazila of Sunanganj. Police went to the village and found the body of the child on Monday. Tuhin’s father Abdul Bachir, a farmer, and his mother Monira Begum went crazy due to the abuse they suffered.
Imran Ahmed, a relative of the deceased, said that Abdul Bashir had three sons and a daughter. Among them, Tuhin was the second oldest. Two brothers, Bachir and Mochabbir, lived with their family in two rooms of the house. Yesterday, Sunday night, they slept with their children. Around 2.30 in the morning, one of Bashir’s nieces woke them up and told them that the door of the room was open. Then everyone woke up and found that Tuhin was gone. Subsequently, the neighbors were also called. The search began. At one point, they walked to the road next to the house and saw blood. They continued to walk forward and found Tuhin’s body hanging on a kadam tree on the roadside.
“Such incidents have never happened in our area before,” said Shahjahan Mia, ward 1 member of Rajanagar Union Parishad (UP). It is heartbreaking that a child was killed in such a brutal way. There may be conflicts and enmity between people. But what crime was committed by an innocent child?
“Tuhin has been admitted to school this time,” said Abdul Mushabir, Abdul Bashir’s younger brother. “His father had a dispute with some people in the village over land. But we don’t know who or what happened. Whoever did it, we hope they will be punished.”
Dirai police station sub-inspector (SI) Abu Taher Mollah told Prothom Alo around 11:00 today that police have reached the spot. A report on the condition of the body is being prepared. Senior police officers will visit the spot. Later, the body will be sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
