According to US media reports on Saturday, the Park Fire has become the fourth largest forest fire in the state’s history and has been raging in California for more than ten days. Authorities said that as of the weekend, the fire had spread to more than 1,600 square kilometers and destroyed hundreds of buildings.
According to US media CBS, California is currently facing at least 16 active forest fires, the largest of which is the Park Fire, which has become the fourth most destructive fire in the state’s history.
More than 6,000 firefighters in California are battling the blazes, which have so far covered more than 1,600 square kilometres of land and “affected vegetation and ecosystems”. They added that “record low humidity” was adding fuel to the blazes.
An arsonist at work
The outbreak began more than a week ago when an arsonist pushed a burning car into the abyss. He appeared in court this week charged with arson and several other crimes.
California firefighters warned this week that about 7,500 square kilometers of land had burned in the state from the beginning of the year to the end of July.
Forest fires and wildfires are also causing problems in other states across the Western United States — Oregon, Idaho, Washington, Utah, Montana, Arizona, New Mexico, Wyoming and Nevada, according to CNN.
