As the government plans to cut public servants’ salaries in a bid to save money, the main union for the Territory’s public servants responds with a series of proposals. Everyone’s involvement, starting with elected officials, to implement pending reforms, pool resources… UT CFE-CGC presents ideas collected from its activists and supporters.
New Caledonia needs money. To operate, to rebuild, to replace the tax revenues that are no longer flowing into the state coffers after businesses and jobs were decimated…

The Territory Alliance surveyed its approximately 2,600 members and received nearly 3,000 responses, including sympathizers. After sorting and summarizing the work, letters outlining different suggestions were sent to different organizations.
Everyone must participate in the rebuilding and in the efforts. Elected officials must not shy away from these efforts.

One of the most common claims among respondents concerns the politicians themselves. “They tell us elected officials to set an example.””, concluded Treasurer Fabienne Kadooka. “There should be transparency in terms of salaries and compensation in these cases. They should also be paid for attendance, kind of like the Chesapeake or traditional Senate does.”
Among the recommendations are a reduction in the amount of attendance fees for both institutions and a reduction in the number and remuneration of collaborators or project managers. They also apply to waiting days.
