Cities are concerned that the government’s proposed changes to compensation standards under the Redemption Act will make it more difficult to acquire land in the future.

Municipalities will have the opportunity to acquire land for themselves through voluntary land sales or eventually through the redemption process. The bill proposes to increase the redemption compensation paid to landowners by 25% on top of the market price.
