The chief minister will oversee the functioning of government after President William Ruto dissolved the cabinet on Thursday.
Ruto, in an address to the nation at the Presidential Palace in Nairobi, assured that government operations would continue uninterrupted under the guidance of the Permanent Secretary.
“I will immediately engage in extensive consultations with different sectors, political groups and other Kenyans in the public and private sectors with a view to establishing a broad-based government that will assist me in accelerating and speeding up the necessary, urgent and irreversible implementation of our existing programmes, including other fundamental measures to tackle the debt burden, explore ways to raise resources, expand employment opportunities, eliminate waste and eradicate corruption,” he said.
The president has said he wants government to be lean, cheap and efficient.
