The book was launched under the organization of HKD Napredak Fojnica branch and HKD Napredak Mostar General Chapter on the occasion of the Croatian Cultural Association’s Napredak Day on July 5 and the feast day of its patron Saints Brother John the Slav Apostle Cyril and Methodius.

Ljiljana Jurak, president of HKD Napredak Fojnica Chapter, recalled that HKD Napredak declared Saints Cyril and Methodius as its patrons because of their significance, mission and role for all Slavic peoples, and reiterated the need for the feast of Saint John at the 65th General Assembly in 2018. Cyril and Methodius – July 5, solemnly commemorated by the whole Society.

In the pleasant atmosphere of the Franciscan monastery, Anto Ivić, member of the Central Committee of HKD Napredak, talked about the book with the author, Danijel Vidović, director of the Croatian House of Herceg Stjepan Kosača in Mostar.

In his speech, Ivić mentioned the existence of a ferry crossing over the Neretva River and an 11th-century bridge. A stone bridge was built during the Ottoman Empire, and two new bridges were built during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which gave the earlier bridge an “old” attribute.

– During the 20th century, three more bridges were built over the Neretva River, in and around the city. The destruction of the bridges during the last war was part of the general picture of social relations, part of a period when the unsustainable old order was falling apart. Ivic said that, in addition to the activities of occasional provocative builders, which continue to this day, in Mostar, a compromise agreement on certain equal rights goals allowed the reconstruction of the bridges in the immediate post-war period. He stressed that Miroslav Landka documented the physical reconstruction of the bridges and the interpersonal exchanges, leaving a lasting legacy for the participants of these activities.

Daniel Vidovic, director of the Croatian House in Mostar, recalled that before the opening of the rebuilt Old Bridge, the local bishop sent a letter to the mayor and deputy mayor of Mostar:

– In a letter to the Bishop of Mons, the head of the city. Dr. Ratko Peric wrote these almost prophetic sentences: “Thus, if we as citizens do not renew ourselves spiritually and humanely, do not grow in our own identity in terms of human history and folk truth, social justice, solidarity and mutual respect, we will certainly be without a stone bridge as a symbol of peace, coexistence and tolerance, and perhaps a magical substitute for eternal values”.

At the end of the presentation, the author pointed out that his book has gone through three editions, as well as German and English editions, and demonstrated the bridge restoration project through speeches by the main leaders of the units. The Coordination Center for the Restoration of the Old Bridge Project (PCU) is responsible for the physical restoration of Stari, and representatives of the City of Mostar and many officials, cultural and public workers from Mostar and abroad have visited the construction site in Stari the most in the past five years.

The book brings a lot of details and tensions about the final completion of the entire project and the opening ceremony of the Old Bridge, the different reactions to the ceremony itself, its provision and financing, and the significance of rebuilding the Mostar Moai Landka adds that for the city itself and its citizens, it is a process of reconciliation and unification of the two coasts that were divided by the unfortunate war.

Napredak announced that in the musical part of the program, HKD Napredak scholarship recipient Petar Glavočević from Fojnica will perform on guitar.
