Let us remind you that at the concert of Bijelo dugme in Split, during the song “Pljuni i zepjevaj, moja Jugoslavija” the Yugoslav flag was displayed on the monitors behind the stage.

“The branch of the Homeland Movement in Split-Dalmatia County reacted after a song praising the creation of the Yugoslav nation was performed at a Bijelo Dugmet concert in Split.

In a measured statement, they recalled the fierce naval blockade and shelling of Split at the beginning of the Homeland War, as well as the sacrifices the city suffered during the Great Patriotic War and the War of Liberation. They called this act an insult to the Croatian state and people, especially to the veterans who were most responsible for the creation of our country.

They also called on DORH and MUP to react before such outbursts provoke angry citizens to take justice and law enforcement into their own hands,” the Democratic Party wrote in a statement.

“Their reaction triggered a barrage of insults from Social Democratic politicians, who accused them of threats, hate speech and intimidation. The rudest was MP Ranko Ostojic, who said, using the Koczian dictionary, that nothing illegal was done at the concert and that “you have said enough nonsense”.

Even after nearly 35 years of Croatian statehood, the party’s state of mind is best illustrated by the words of the Social Democratic Party’s Split supporters, who do not question the fact that a third of Croatia’s territory has been destroyed and occupied.

They have no problem with the symbols of the massacres in Skabnya and Ovkara. For them, it is a symbol of freedom, for the rest of us, it is a symbol of hatred, evil and occupation. It is because of this state of consciousness that the Social Democratic Party is dying a painful death for the third term in opposition and, by all accounts, will continue to exist for the next three terms as well.

The Split case once again demonstrates the need to apply positive European regulation when dealing with the characteristics of all totalitarian systems.

“A symbol that offends the feelings of eighty percent of the citizens of Split and Croatia cannot be exempt from criminal law and sanctions. Our mission is to address such issues through legal changes, and we will persist in doing so,” the press release said.
