Tension in Udaipur: Students stab classmates in school, mobs set cars on fire

Madhuban area of ​​Rajasthan’s Udaipur was engulfed in communal tension after a Class 10 student was stabbed by a classmate in a government school on Friday, officials said. As tension escalated in the evening, markets in Bapu Bazar, Hathipole, Ghanta Ghar, Chetak Circle and nearby areas were shut. Prohibition orders, including Section 144, were imposed in the city. It is not clear what led to the stabbing incident at the Bhattiyani Chohatta area government school.

The victim is currently in a stable condition in the ICU of a hospital, and there were false reports that he had died in the incident. After the rumor spread, arson and vandalism were reported at several locations in the city, and several cars were burnt. In response to the violence, the city of Udaipur imposed Section 144 to prevent further riots and ensure public safety. The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.

According to district collector Arvind Poswal, the injured student is in stable condition in the ICU. The suspect and his father have been arrested. Poswal urged residents not to spread rumours and assured the public that the situation is being closely monitored.

The incident took place at a government high school under the jurisdiction of Surajpur police station, where a student stabbed another student in the thigh with a knife several times. The injured student was rushed to MB Hospital by the school teacher. After the incident, the district education officer and Surajpur police station officials rushed to the spot. The school was in a panic as misinformation about the student’s death spread quickly.

Rumors of the child’s death sparked outrage among local residents, who gathered at the hospital demanding stern action. The unrest also led to the closure of markets in the city. Authorities are investigating the cause of the dispute between the two students. Soon after the incident, members of several Hindu organizations gathered in the Madhuban area and set fire to at least three cars parked in a garage and threw stones.

In response to the escalating unrest, the police deployed additional police personnel to the scene, including Indian police officer Rajendra Prasad Goyal, who was tasked with restoring order. The Jaipur Police Headquarters is closely monitoring the situation. Police Commissioner UR Sahu and Deputy Commissioner of Law and Order Vishal Bansal have contacted officers from the Udaipur police station and instructed them to quickly control the situation. They have been instructed to take action against those who are escalating the unrest. The police chief urged the public to ignore any information or rumors that could further disrupt communal harmony.

Despite these efforts, the situation in Udaipur remained tense. Late Thursday night, clashes between two groups of people were reported in the Aiyad area, with stone-throwing also reported. Police responded with force, dispersing the crowd and maintaining a heavy police presence to ensure stability.
