Ramanathapuram Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon on Wednesday handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh as relief to the family of fisherman V. Ramachandran (74), who went missing after falling into the sea on August 1.

When four fishermen were fishing in a motor boat near Neduntheevu, a Sri Lankan Navy vessel rammed the fishing boat, causing damage to the boat and drowning of one fisherman, Malaisamy (59).

Two of them were rescued, but Ramachandran was missing and Indian Coast Guard vessels searched for him for five days without success.

After Chief Minister MK Stalin announced Rs 10 lakh assistance to the families of the missing fishermen, the collector handed over the assistance to the families.
