- “We will not be carrying any weapons,” he stressed.
ISLAMABAD: Reacting to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s announcement to hold a rally in the federal capital, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar on Monday said he did not think the opposition party would get permission to do so.
“Given their past record, I don’t think they will be allowed to hold a rally in Islamabad,” the information minister said in an interview with Geographic News Show “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath”.
Information Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mohammad Ali Saif said on Sunday that Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan has “decided” to hold a public rally in the federal capital on August 22 after a long campaign to hold a power show in Islamabad.
Saif assured that the party would try to avoid any violation of the law.
Tarar said that recent actions can be considered to verify whether the claim of peaceful protests is true or not. He also asked which PTI protest was peaceful.
“One cannot become peaceful simply by talking, he must prove it with evidence,” he said.
Ostensibly in response to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s remarks about holding a rally in the federal capital anyway, he said it was not the first time as former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak also came with cranes and modern equipment.
The minister said that despite the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI)’s recent peaceful sit-in protest against the increase in electricity tariff, they were still barred from entering Islamabad.
He advised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to focus on health, education and counter-terrorism activities in the province.
In the same program, Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Sher Afzal Marwat said they would not stop holding the rally on August 22 even if the government used force against them.
“The Kimberley Process team will be so large that no one can stop it even if someone tries to stop it,” he said.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPs said they would not carry any weapons or petrol bombs. Instead, they would not carry weapons but demonstrate peacefully.
“We will remain peaceful,” he said, but warned: “If there is violence or exchange of fire, all of Pakistan will rise up in rebellion.”
