The Torkham gate remained closed to hundreds of trucks carrying Afghan agricultural products for the third day on Saturday.

Pakistan closed the route late Wednesday.

It is currently the season for Afghan fruits and vegetables and traders are trying to export them to Pakistan.

Pakistani officials said people passing through the gate must have a “temporary entry document” or “TAD.”

They set July 31 as the deadline to obtain the documents.

The TAD is a document issued by the Taliban embassy and consulate in Pakistan to Pakistani drivers and by the Pakistani embassy in Afghanistan to Afghan drivers, and must be renewed every six months.

The document allows drivers to travel for six months without a passport or visa, but some Afghan drivers say Pakistan will not allow them to pass through Torkm even if they have the document.

Pakistani authorities say they have made the documents mandatory to ensure security and prevent insurgents from passing through Torkham and other routes.
