Syriza Abroad: “The national headquarters should remain in foreign hands”

The announcement stated:

«As Greek men and women emigrated from abroad, As members of the SYRIZA-PP member organizations abroad, we demand that Hellenism Abroad continue to have representation in the SYRIZA-PP parliamentary group..

Otto Iliopoulos’ resignation for personal reasons, whose proposal we thank and respect, and his wish to be replaced by another expatriate Greek on our ticket, Syriza President Stefanos Katselakis, not only reflects the will of thousands of voters of our party, especially immigrants, but constitutes the highest act of political courage and empathy and is the wish of our grassroots.

This is a political decision that respects the spirit of the law and demonstrates our commitment to expatriate voting rights, something the NDP government has denied.

At the same time, we want to give the President the opportunity to fully assume the responsibilities that come with being Leader of the Official Opposition.

For all these reasons, we call on all those who came second in the state elections to respect our will and resign in turn, so that the parliamentary representation of Hellenicism abroad can continue, and Syriza-PS has real representation in Parliament through the President.».

The Notice was signed by SYRIZA-PS member organizations outside Belgium, Bulgaria, North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany), Hesse (Germany), the United Kingdom and Ireland, the United States of America, Scandinavia.
