Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas has achieved “tremendous” results from its exploration and appraisal activities in the first half of 2024 both domestically and in other parts of the world.

One of the company’s biggest successes was achieved off the coast of Suriname, where they drilled the Sloanea-2 well in Block 52 in June.

This success brings good prospects for the company in the region and opens up the possibility of building floating plants for the production of liquefied natural gas (FLNG) in the future.

Petronas is currently studying the possibility of developing and extracting gas and oil in the area in an integrated manner. They are working with ExxonMobil from Texas, USA in this field.

Petronas Upstream managing director Mohd Jukris Abdul Wahab said these successes validate the company’s commitment and expertise.

They demonstrate that Petronas is able to create significant value not only in Malaysia but also in international countries such as Suriname through strategic and innovative approaches.

This means that if the FLNG project goes smoothly, Suriname has the potential to become an important player in the global natural gas market in the future.
