The 2024 Paris Paralympic Games will begin on August 28. A total of 84 Indian athletes will compete in 12 events.

New Delhi: After the Olympics ended last week, the focus shifted to the 2024 Paris Paralympics, which begins on August 28. Tokyo Paralympic gold medalist Sumit Antil and Asian Para Games silver medalist Bhagyashree Jadhav were chosen as Indian flag bearers for the opening ceremony.

“Anthil and Bhagashree have been consistent performers over the years. They will be the flag bearers for India at the parade of athletes at the Paris Paralympics,” Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) president Devendra Jhajharia told PTI. India won 19 medals in the last Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

Haryana javelin thrower Sumit won the gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympics by breaking the world record in the F64 category with a throw of 68.55m. Last year, he won the gold medal at the World Para Championships and broke his own record at the Asian Para Games by throwing 73.29m.

Shot putter Bhagyashree competed in the F34 category and won a silver medal at the Asian Para Games. She is also a medalist at the FAZZA World Cup. The Indian delegation consists of 84 athletes in 12 sports at the Paralympics, which will be held from August 28 to September 8.
