Student of the Year: Mahesh Bhatt calls Alia Bhatt ‘just a model’ in her debut film

Alia Bhatt’s father Mahesh Bhatt was not a big fan of Student of the Year but he loved his daughter’s roles in Highway and Udta Punjab.

After a difficult journey, Alia Bhatt became a well-known actor who has won many national awards and starred in several successful films. She made her adult film debut in the film Student of the Year in 2012. Her father Mahesh Bhatt felt that Shanaya Singhania, played by Karan Johar in the film, was “just a model”, even though everyone loved her debut.

The renowned director discussed with India Today about the roles his daughter has played in several films. Mahesh Bhatt praised Alia’s performances in the following films: highway and Udah, PunjabHe said he was surprised at how easily his daughter could pull off the local accent and play a migrant worker, despite growing up in the metropolitan city of Mumbai.

Mahesh congratulated his daughter on having the “raw strength” to be able to “enter such a vulnerable space and open up,” Udah, Punjab. He did, however, take a closer look at Alia Bhatt’s role in her debut film SOTY. Her role in the said film is very different from the girl who was “just a model” in Student of the Year. Moreover, her father praised her revolution and expressed his happiness to see it in his daughter.

“I must say, I was Udah, Punjab’ Bhatt added that he couldn’t understand why this Juhu girl had the exact same accent as the Adivasis from Chhattisgarh. It was amazing. I was shocked by it. She had this raw power to go into such vulnerable spaces and be so revealing. Highway and Udta Punjab… She is so different from the girl who was just a model in Student of the Year.
