A strong typhoon is heading towards Karachi, Pakistan, which has a population of about 20 million and is the largest city in Pakistan.
The weather agency said the cyclone expected to hit Karachi formed in the Arabian Sea region. The last severe storm in the region was in August, and the weather agency said severe storms are usually rare in the region.
Karachi received 147mm of rain before the storm hit the city. Heavy rains in the region have killed 28 people and forced 18,000 to evacuate.
Karachi authorities urged residents not to go out unless necessary. Karachi authorities also advised people not to travel by boat or go fishing. The storm is expected to cause severe flooding and landslides in Karachi.
