President Ranil Wickremesinghe stressed that Sri Lanka’s future will depend on the economic policies implemented over the next five years.
The President made the statement while addressing the youth and business community at the “Youth Meet” held in Mannar yesterday (16th).
The President attended the first Mannar District ‘Youth Conference’ yesterday (16th) at the Mannar Town Hall Conference Hall. The conference, themed ‘Journey to a Bright Future’, included a prize-giving ceremony where the President presented certificates and cash prizes to students who performed well in the 2023/2024 GCE Advanced Level Examinations.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe interacted directly with the youths, answering their questions and responding positively.
He explained that job growth over the past four years had been hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis, but he assured the audience that the upcoming economic plan would create new jobs for those who were previously unable to work.
The President stressed that it is up to the youth to decide for themselves whether they wish to develop their future through government programmes and contribute to the country.
In addition, President Ranil Wickremesinghe convened a meeting of business people from Mannar district in Mannar yesterday (16th).
The President stressed that the continuation of the current government’s economic policies will attract a large number of investors to the country in the future.
He also stressed that maintaining consistent economic policies over the long term will bring success to the country.
The President stressed that the New Economic Policy introduced through the Economic Transformation Law is a key step forward for the country. He stressed that this framework equips any government to move the country forward.
The President noted that despite the Sri Lankan people’s long-standing efforts to find a political solution, initiatives aimed at addressing economic challenges were clearly lacking, stressing that the country’s sustainable development depended on the implementation of strong economic policies.
The President highlighted his achievements in reviving the nation’s economy in just two years and assured that further relief measures would be provided to all sectors as the economy continued to strengthen.
Besides, the President also briefed the youth and business community on the initiatives taken by the government for all-round development of the Mannar region.
State Minister Kader Mastan, Congress MP Selvam Adaikalanathan, Uttar Pradesh Governor PSMCharles and other political representatives from the province were also present on the occasion.
