Kathmandu, July 20 – Sri Lanka beat India by 32 runs in the second ODI after spinner Geoffrey Wanderse took 6 wickets with his deadly bowling. With this, Sri Lanka leads 1-0 in the three-match ODI series. The first ODI match ended in a draw.

India had a target of 241 runs to win but were eventually bowled out for 208 in 42.2 overs. Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored 65 runs off 44 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. Shubman Gill scored 35 runs off 44 balls with 3 fours.

Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a good start as they scored 97 runs in 13.3 overs. India kept losing wickets after Jeffrey’s ball was caught by Rohit Pathum.

In the middle order, Akshar Patel scored 44 runs off 4 balls with 2 sixes, Washington Sundar 15, Virat Kohli 14, Shreyas Iyer 7, Lokesh Rahul and Shivam were both out for zero. Sri Lankan spinner Jeffrey Wandersay scored 33 runs in 10 overs and captain Charis Aslanka took 3 wickets.

Prior to this, Sri Lanka, who won the toss and chose to bat first, scored 240 runs in 50 overs, losing 9 wickets. Abhishka Fernando and Kamindu Mendis scored 40 runs each. Charith Aslanka scored 25 runs, Kushal Mendis 30 runs and Dunith Velalage 39 runs.

Washington Sundar 3, Kuldeep Yadav 2, Mohammad Shiraj and Akshar Patel took 1 wicket each for India. In the first ODI match on Friday, when India needed 1 run in 15 balls, Charith Aslanka took two consecutive wickets to tie the match. Due to the absence of a super over, the match ended in a draw.

The third and final ODI match will be played on Wednesday. India has swept the three-match T20I series.
