Kathmandu, July 18 – The first ODI match between India and Sri Lanka ended in a draw. Chasing a target of 231 runs, the Indian team gave their all and scored 230 runs in 47.5 overs.
India needed 1 run to win in the last 15 balls with 2 wickets. But captain Charith Aslanka bowled a spin to Shibam Dubey in the fourth ball of the 48th over and Arshdeep Singh lbw in the fifth ball to tie the match dramatically. As there was no Super Over, the first ODI ended in a draw.
Captain Rohit Sharma scored 58 runs off 47 balls with seven fours and three sixes. Shubman Gill 16, Virat Kohli 25, Washington Sundar 5, Shreyas Air 23, Lokesh Rahul 31 and Akshar Patel was dismissed for 33 runs.
In the lower order, Shivam Dub scored 25 runs off 24 balls, including 1 four and 2 sixes. Needing 1 run to win, Dub was dismissed by Charith Aslanka. Sri Lanka withdrew after a review. The match ended in a dramatic draw, with Arshdeep, who arrived next, also dismissed LBW.
Charith Aslanka took 3 wickets in 8.5 overs and scored 30 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga took 3 wickets in 10 overs and scored 58 runs. Dunith Velalage 2, Asith Fenando and Akila Dhananjaya took 1 wicket each.
Prior to this, Sri Lanka, who won the toss and chose to bat first, scored 230 runs in 50 overs, losing 8 wickets. India’s Arshdeep Singh and Akshar Patel took two wickets each. Mohammad Shiraj, Shivam Dubey, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar took one wicket each. The second match will be played on Sunday and the third on Wednesday. Earlier, India swept the three-match T20I series. India lost the last match of the Super League.
