Sports Minister congratulates athletes of karate and women’s cricket on historic wins

Kathmandu, July 4. Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chowdhury has congratulated Nepal on its historic victory over the United Arab Emirates at the 8th South Asian Karate Championships and ACC Women’s Asia Cup in Thimphu, Bhutan.

Youth and Sports Minister Chaudhry on Friday congratulated the athletes of both events through the official Facebook page of his secretariat.

Congratulating the Nepali women’s cricket team via Facebook, he said: “I would like to extend my sincerest and best wishes to the Nepali women’s cricket team for a historic six-wicket win over UAE in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup.”

Chasing a target of 116, Nepal lost 4 wickets in 16.1 overs. Previously in the Asia Cup, Nepal lost 3 matches in 2012 and 5 matches in 2016. In Nepal’s victory, Khadka scored 72 not out off 45 balls with 11 fours. Pooja Mahato also scored 7 not out.

Likewise, Sports Minister Chaudhry also congratulated the Nepali team for winning first place in the 8th South Asian Karate Championship held in Thimphu, Bhutan. “I would like to congratulate Nepal for winning a total of 62 medals, including 31 gold, 20 silver and 11 bronze medals, at the 8th South Asian Karate Championship held in Thimphu, Bhutan,” he wrote on Facebook.

In the 8th South Asian Karate Championship, Nepal became the first team to win a total of 62 medals, including 31 gold, 20 silver and 11 bronze medals. The athletes who won gold medals for Nepal on the last day of competition were Saman Shrestha in the men’s category, Sahil Rai in the 63 kg category, and Tamang in the junior category. Similarly, Gaurav Nobel in the U-21 category, -84 kg, and Ashish Shrestha in the +84 kg category.

Likewise, in the men’s senior category, Alon Shrestha in -55kg, Santosh Shrestha in -67kg, Mohammad Sekhu Alam in -84kg and Biplab Lal Shrestha in +84kg won gold medals for Nepal.

Besides, he also expressed his blessings to the athletes and coaches who will participate in the 33rd Paris Summer Olympics in 2024 and asked them to compete in a way that would inspire the people of Nepal.
