Caribbean Elite Group has revealed the hosts and other winners of the much-anticipated Caribbean Music Awards 2024. This year’s event will be hosted by the Queen of Dancehall Spice and the King of Caribbean Comedy Majah Hype, who will bring their signature energy and charisma to the stage on Caribbean music’s biggest night.
Known for her electrifying performances and hits like “So Mi Like It” and “Go Down Deh,” Spice continues to dominate the dancehall scene. Her influence extends beyond music to the worlds of acting and business. Known for his comedic talents and relatable Caribbean persona, Majah Hype’s unique brand of humor and cultural commentary has won over audiences around the world.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Marcia Griffiths, Alison Hinds and Cedella Marley will be honoured at the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Elite Icon Award and the Legacy Award respectively.
The award will also recognize several outstanding artists who have made significant contributions to Caribbean music:
- Producer Credits – Di Genius: Legendary Jamaican record producer Stephen “The Genius” McGregor has shaped modern reggae and dancehall music through innovative production techniques and collaborations with global superstars. Most recently, he continued his influence with the production of Shenseea’s hit “Hit and Run.”
- Konpa Honors – Tabou Group: With over five decades of musical excellence, Tabou Combo is a pioneering force in Haitian Konpa music, blending traditional rhythms with modern sounds.
- Chutney Honorable Mention – Ravi B: Known for hits like “Drinka” and “Budget,” Ravi B has become a key figure in the Chutney music scene, enriching the Caribbean’s cultural heritage with his energetic performances and infectious melodies.
- Gospel Honors – Sherwin Gardner: Trinidadian gospel singer Sherwin Gardner has been a beloved figure in the gospel music community for more than two decades, inspiring audiences with his soulful voice and uplifting lyrics.
- Calypso Honorable Mention – Mighty Sparrow: Often referred to as the “Calypso King of the World”, Mighty Sparrow’s illustrious career spanned over 60 years and included timeless classics such as “Jean and Dinah” and “Only a Fool”.
Since its inception, the Caribbean Music Awards has been dedicated to celebrating the rich musical traditions of the Caribbean region and recognizing artists who have made a significant contribution to its development. Last year’s inaugural awards ceremony saw Buju Banton, David Rudder, Mikaben and Beres Hammond among the outstanding artists who received the award.
