Berlin: Teenage winger Lamine Yamal will become the youngest player in the history of the European football tournament when he plays for Spain against Croatia in their Euro 2024 Group B match on Saturday.

Yamal was 16 years, 338 days old when he kicked off, easily beating the previous record set by Poland’s Kacpal Kozlowski, who was 17 years, 246 days old when he made his Euro 2020 debut.

Yamal will join Nico Williams and centre-forward and captain Alvaro Morata in Spain’s attack, with Pedri, Rodri and Fabian Ruiz in defence in midfield.

Luka Modric will captain Croatia but long-time team-mate Ivan Perisic is not included in the starting 11, with Ante Budimir set to form an attacking trio alongside Andrej Kramaric and Lovro Majer.
