Roster changes and key players

South Africa also recalled wicketkeeper-batsman Ryan Rickerton to rest all-rounder Marco Janssen, who played a key role in South Africa’s run to the final of the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. Rickerton last played a series for South Africa in March 2023 against the West Indies.

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma will return to lead the team. South Africa will have fresh memories of their last encounter with the West Indies, which they won 2-0 in the Caribbean series in June 2021.

South Africa coach Shukri Conrad stressed the importance of the tour as the team aims to improve their ICC World Test Championship. “This tour is very important for us as we aim to improve our ranking in the ICC World Test Championship. Hence, we have selected the strongest possible squad and are looking forward to a strong performance in the Caribbean,” said Conrad.

Konrad also highlighted the addition of Bretzke, saying: “We have a new face in the squad, Matthew Bretzke, who made the cut after a strong season last season. The decision to rest Marko Janssen was made to give him a period of adjustment to ensure he remains in optimal physical and mental health with the workload throughout the season.”
