“Shukro’s body was found under the rubble of the targeted building,” the source said on condition of anonymity.

The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that it had killed the commander, describing Shukla as Hezbollah’s top military commander and “right-hand man” of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The Israeli military said a senior Hezbollah commander, Shukla, who it said was responsible for a weekend rocket attack in the annexed Golan Heights that killed 12 children, was killed in a strike on Tuesday.

Hezbollah has denied responsibility for Saturday’s deadly rocket attack on the Arab Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights, although the group said it struck several Israeli military positions that day.

“We will respond harshly,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Monday.

Since Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, triggering fighting in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah, an ally of the Palestinian militant group, has exchanged fire with Israeli troops almost every day.

According to AFP, the attacks in Lebanon have killed at least 534 people, most of them militants, but also 108 civilians.

According to the military, at least 22 soldiers and 25 civilians were killed on the Israeli side, including the Golan Heights.
