Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has been voted by fans as part of the Premier League (EPL) Team of the Year (Best 11) for the 2023-24 season.
The Premier League Secretariat announced on its website on the 29th the list of the best 11 players in the 2023-24 Premier League season determined by fans’ voting. The voting was held from the 21st to the 27th.
Son Heung-min’s name is not included in the “4-4-2” formation.
Son Heung-min was included in a shortlist of 10 forward candidates identified by the secretariat, but the players ultimately chosen by the fans were Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) and Erling Haaland (Manchester City).
Son Heung-min ranks 8th in goals and tied for 3rd in assists with 17 goals and 10 assists this season. In particular, he achieved 10 goals and 10 assists for the third time in his career, becoming the first Asian player and the sixth Premier League player to do so.
However, Son Heung-min’s name was excluded due to strong competitors.
Watkins, who occupies one of the top two spots, led Aston Villa to fourth place with 19 goals and 13 assists this season. Aston Villa beat Tottenham in fifth place and won the right to participate in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) next season.
Top scorer Haaland scored 27 goals in 31 games despite major and minor injuries, winning the title of top scorer for two consecutive seasons and leading Manchester City to win the league title for the fourth consecutive time.
Phil Foden (Manchester City), who won the Premier League Player of the Year award, was named as left midfielder, and Cole Palmer (Chelsea), who won the Premier League Young Player award, was named as right midfielder.
The two midfield positions were also occupied by Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne from the winning team Manchester City.
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was voted by fans in the back four along with Ben White, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhone (Arsenal).
The best goalkeeper chosen by fans is David Raya of Arsenal. Raya is the team with the fewest goals conceded in the Premier League this season, conceding only 29 goals (38 appearances).
