SLP’s “Tomorrow’s Journey”

The Saint Lucia Labour Party’s (SLP) ‘Walk for Progress’ event is scheduled to take place tomorrow. The SLP says it is an important event that will showcase the Government’s commitment to the country’s progress.

The walk will start at 2:30pm from the Vigie Sports Ground and the SLP leadership encourages all supporters, interest groups and individuals to join the walk to show support for the government’s policies.

Prime Minister Philippe Pierre stressed that the march was a concrete expression of the people’s support for the Government and its commitment to addressing various issues such as health, sports, education, socio-economic and livelihoods.

The SLP said it was an opportunity to showcase the government’s achievements and ongoing efforts to bring about meaningful change and improve the lives of citizens.

In keeping with its mandate for good governance and accountability, the event is expected to promote the government’s

“Substantial progress” has been made over the past three years, including an increase in pension charges, with the minimum charge increasing from $300 to $500 a month for National Insurance Corporation (NIC) pensioners and $725 for government pensioners from August 1, 2024.

Speaking recently about the purpose of the march, Prime Minister Pierre told reporters: “We want the people of Saint Lucia to demonstrate with action whether they support the policies of the government.”

Sri Lanka Labour Party political leaders have expressed dissatisfaction with some of the measures taken by the previous United Workers Party (UWP) regime and reiterated the party’s slogan of “people first”.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Pierre entrenched the policy of “wealth creation” among the people.

The Prime Minister cited notable achievements such as the enactment of the minimum wage, and other beneficial projects that benefit the people. These include the Youth Economic Agency (YEA) programme, which has nurtured the development and entrepreneurship skills of hundreds of business-minded young people from across the island.
