The Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) represents physicians and dentists who legally practice medicine in Saint Lucia. As the national voice of physicians, we advocate for our members and the public, strive to improve access to better healthcare, and provide leadership and guidance to practitioners.
| Our mission is to sustain human development in Saint Lucia by harnessing the individual and collective healthcare expertise of our members for the benefit of the people of Saint Lucia. The letter to the Board of Directors of the Irvine King EU Hospital, which unfortunately became public, accurately reflects the legitimate, well-known concerns of our members. Following the publication of the letter, our Chairperson, Dr. Mel Clarke, has been personally attacked and defamed for carrying out the duties entrusted to her by our members. She has been falsely accused of political affiliation and abuse of power as she highlighted and sought intervention on our behalf for serious issues in our public health system. |
| The Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association unequivocally condemns these unfounded allegations and public attacks on our President. We urge the public not to be distracted by misrepresentations of the facts that would otherwise distract from the critical issues at hand. Healthcare is an essential service and every Saint Lucian has the right to quality care. Dr. Clarke is merely the messenger who speaks for the entire physician community. Any attack on her is an attack on all of us. We will not remain silent when our call to serve requires us to be silent. We remain steadfast in our commitment to addressing the pressing issues in our healthcare system and will continue to advocate for the well-being and access to equitable, affordable healthcare for all Saint Lucians. |
