ST. KITTS AND NEVIS (WINN) – The Parliament of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has passed the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (Agreement) Bill, 2024.

The bill, introduced by Minister for Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment Dr. Joyelle Clark, strengthens the nation’s commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable development.

Dr Clarke addressed Parliament, noting the importance of the bill to national environmental policy.

The legislation seeks to formalise St Kitts and Nevis’ collaboration with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), established by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to coordinate the region’s response to climate change.

The bill aims to enable St. Kitts and Nevis to access technical expertise, financial resources and strategic initiatives to build climate resilience.

Dr Clarke highlighted the collective effort of Parliament to pass the Bill and emphasised the importance of tackling climate change to protect the environment and communities.

The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (Protocol) Act, 2024 represents St. Kitts and Nevis’s efforts to advance the environmental agenda and is expected to support ongoing efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.

The CCCCC provides climate-related policy advice, guidelines and research, and provides financial and technical resources to support climate resilience and sustainable development efforts in the Caribbean.

The passage of this bill reflects St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to regional cooperation and addressing the challenges of climate change.
