St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): On Saturday evening, August 31, the Trinidad Knights won a huge 250-4 against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park.
The first wicket of the Knight Riders was taken in 3.5 overs and Sunil Narine left the field with a contribution of 38 runs.
The team’s star player and Man of the Match Nicholas Pooran scored 97 but he seemed to leave with mixed emotions. He helped his team win with a high score and also hit the fastest half-century so far, a 21-ball 50. However, when Pooran tried to hit a top score to win his first century of the 2024 tournament, he was trapped in a boundary, which left him disappointed.
Kathy Carty showed great batting skills and tenacity, hitting the ball into the air and over the boundary at the right time. He scored 73 runs off 35 balls.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots made several mistakes on the field, while the Knights had their moments of glory. Odion Smith had a poor performance on the field, missing the ball several times in different parts of the field. Dominic Drakes failed to catch the ball accurately, and conceded more than 70 points, setting a record for the most expensive conceded point in the history of the Caribbean Premier League.
The pressure mounted when the Patriots received a red card and were penalized with a stop-clock penalty for exceeding the allotted time.
In response, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots posted a record of 205 wins and 8 losses. However, without a strong partnership in place, achieving the goal became increasingly unlikely.
Patriots captain Andre Fletcher scored nothing and Kayle Mayers was hit for 6 in the first over. Evin Lewis had a good performance, scoring 39 but was unable to hold on. Mikyle Louis, the Patriots’ top scorer and the only Kittitian in the team, batted well and was awarded the Republic Bank Player of the Year award. He hit 7 fours and 2 sixes before being caught for 56 runs.
In the post-match interview, Lewis told the media that he would have liked to score more points for the Patriots and win the match. However, Lewis was happy that this was the first time he played in front of his hometown fans since being called up to the West Indies.
Meanwhile, Warner Park Cricket Ground, one of the smallest pitches in the world, has witnessed some of the highest scoring chances in the history of world cricket. During the match on August 31, the third umpire had to assist with changing the ball several times as batsmen kept hitting the ball out of the pitch.
The following CPL matches at Warner Park are scheduled for September 1, 2024: St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs. St. Lucia Kings, match time is 7:00 p.m.
