With the support of the Siem Reap Provincial Administration, the Provincial Information Department organized a seminar on the Journalism Professional Charter to 148 journalists, troops and departments (including 18 women) across the province on the morning of August 16, 2024. It was hosted by Mr. Chea Chanboribo, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Information, and Mr. Ngov Sengkak, Deputy Governor.
Mr. Chea Chanboribo said in his speech at the event that Siem Reap is the first destination for the Ministry of Information to spread the “Press Charter” in Cambodia after its official implementation on August 6, 2024. He said that in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, the information industry is more modernized and everyone has their own media. But for professional journalists, the Journalism Professional Charter is a bulletproof vest for safety, honor and dignity. Therefore, respecting this professional code is the value of one’s profession.
The Secretary-General of the Press Code said that this is a basic principle of the Cambodian Press Code, which will help journalists and the general public better understand their rights to publish information and avoid any obscure information that may cause social unrest.
According to the report of Mr. Seng Phally, Acting Director of the Siem Reap Provincial Information Bureau, Siem Reap City in 2024 is a busy year for organizing large and small national and international events, which has been carefully considered and cared for by the Royal Government, including “Siem Reap Tourism Year”, “Changes between People” and participating in many other national and international events to promote the development of tourism, which is the province’s top economic trend.
At the same time, the Ministry of Information and the provincial government vigorously promote the province’s tourism products and development, attracting domestic and foreign tourists in various forms.
Deputy Provincial Governor Mr. Ngov Sengkak said that the event was a bridge for meetings between the provincial authorities and journalists to promote good cooperation and further integrate press freedom and correct information with clear sources. He also praised the Provincial Information Office and Siem Reap journalists who have been spreading positive messages to promote the province’s tourism and economy.
