Shubhangi Digamber Chikte, professor at the Kalaburagi Regional Centre of the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), and Jayashree Agarkhed, professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, PDA College of Engineering, Kalaburagi, have been awarded the Professor Satish Dhawan Engineer Award 2022.
The award was established by the state government in 2003 to encourage engineers and is given to engineers below the age of 50 who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of engineering and earth sciences.
The award is given by the Karnataka State Council of Science and Technology and carries a prize of INR 100,000, along with a memento and certificate.
Hemanth Kumar, an associate professor in the mechanical engineering department at the National Institute of Technology, Suratkar and a native of Dakshina Kannada, and Madeva Nagaral, manager (design) at the Aircraft Research and Design Centre at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bengaluru, were the other two recipients of awards in this category.
Prof. Chikte is the youngest woman to have won the most state, national and international awards from Kalyana district in Karnataka.
She has submitted 27 research results for Indian patents and has been granted one patent.
She has also been awarded six international patents in the UK, US and Australia, and has published 166 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, two of which won IEEE Best Paper Awards.
Prof. Agarkhed is the youngest woman from Kalyana district in Karnataka to win two national awards, the Best Research Publication Award from the state government’s Vision Group for Science and Technology (VGST) and the Best Female Engineering Faculty Award from the Indian Association for Technical Education, New Delhi.
She has also won the IEEE Best Paper Award and was awarded the Ten Star Award Certificate from the Central Government Department of Education SWAYAM-National Technology Enhanced Learning Program. She was ranked in the top 35. She has won three Superstar Awards, three Subject Star Awards, two Field Scholar Awards, one Enthusiast Award and one Active Learner Award, four gold medals and thirteen silver medals.
Among the 16 patents published, three research results have been granted Indian patents, three process patents and four design patents have been registered.
Out of 200 publications (SCI/WEB OF SCIENCE/UGC), around 100 are indexed in Scopus international journals and conferences. She is a subject expert in various universities and colleges in India.
