The Institute of Surveyors (Saint Lucia) recently hosted a two-day seminar on the theme “The Built Environment Profession and the Impact of Innovation and Technology Development in the Small Island Developing States of Saint Lucia”.
The event brought together professionals from the construction and engineering fields, land surveyors, quantity surveyors, etc. Participants included alternative dispute resolution professionals, insurance and financial institutions (including credit unions), who discussed the challenges facing built environment professionals and the transformative potential of technology in their respective fields.
The seminar was moderated by Tedburt Theobalds, CEO of Theobalds and Associates and former president of ISSL. In his opening remarks, Theobalds stressed the importance of integrating new technologies into professional practice and strengthening relationships with the financial sector.
ISSL President Tryce Loctar-Polius stressed that professionals face several unresolved challenges stemming from a lack of collaborative efforts and a lack of understanding of the roles of various professionals in the built environment. The event aimed to make participants aware of the barriers to providing professional services in the real estate market.
Therefore, an ISSL spokesperson said there was a need to hold a two-day event to have meaningful discussions with stakeholders.
Participants included the Saint Lucia Institute of Surveyors, the Saint Lucia Institute of Architects, the Saint Lucia Institute of Professional Engineers, government departments, financial institutions, insurance companies, contractors, statutory bodies, IT specialists, real estate agents and commercial developers.
